Company Safety Management System:
As part of BSC’s commitment towards higher safety standard for operation of vessels and protection of the marine environment, BSC has declared its policy in this regard and that has become the guiding motto for the Safety Management System (SMS) established in BSC as per requirement of the International Safety Management (ISM) Code for safe operation of ships and for pollution prevention enacted by the International ritime Organisation (IMO) as part of SOLAS Convention.

In the year 2002, Bangladesh Shipping Corporation achieved the Document of Compliance (DOC) and the Safety Management Certificate (SMC) for all vessels for the first time under the International Safety Management (ISM) Code. During 2006-07 all these certificates got matured after completion of the five years certificate validity time. As such renewal audits under ISM Code have already been completed for BSC Head Office and for vessels in the fleet and fresh certificates have been issued by the Germanischer Lloyd Head Quarter in Hamburg. Further more the Intermediate External Audits under ISPS Code have also been carried out onboard those vessels by GL.

International Ship & Port Facility Security System:
The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) is continuously upgrading the existing maritime regulations as well as enacting new regulations as per demand of the present day awareness for safety of life and property and for the protection of environment. Apart from awareness for safety and environment protection, in view of growing conscious about security, IMO has introduced new regulations on maritime security measures, namely the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, which has entered into force from 1st of July 2004. The Germanischer Lloyd has also issued the International Ship Security Certificate (ISSC) under ISPS Code for each vessel.

Company ISM Manual:
A Manual with five different parts, namely Safety Management Manual (SMM), Company Procedure Manual (CPM), Fleet Instructions Manual (FIM), Shipboard Contingency Manual (SCM) and Shore-Based Contingency Manual (SBCM) has been prepared and continuously upgraded under the company Safety Management System. A Ship Security Plan (SSP) for each vessel has also been prepared for the Security System established onboard all BSC vessels.
